Accept, O Lord, our alms, though small;
unworthy sacrifice;
they represent our worthless all,
yet pleasing in thine eyes.
Accept this bread; our bodies break
from every lust and sin;
a living sacrifice to make,
the souls of men to win.
Accept this wine; our lives outpour,
for blood doth mean the life,
in holy warfare, strong and sure,
with sin in deadly strife.
Accept our plea; the sacrifice
once broken and outpoured,
we here show forth, with thankful hearts,
till he shall come adored.
Wilson Carlile (1847-1942)
