PETE SEEGER the American folk singer and activists popularity peaked between the 1940s to the 60s with many radio broadcasts and a string of hit records with his music group the Weavers. Seeger's most notable hit with the Weavers was Lead Belly's "Goodnight, Irene" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", is probably the best known product of his song writing. Like Dylan, for us "UK folkies" his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when he along with other key figures popularising and extended the reach of the American folk revival (which had begun in the 1940's) exposing other countries such as the UK to this type of music.
Seeger's book "How to play the 5-string banjo" was very popular in the UK in the 60's and I along with many others struggled to learn Seeger's somewhat quirky banjo method from it.
