About This Book
You might wonder what a book about the technicalities of poetry and verse is doing on a website about traditional music. Well, if you have ever tried to write a song, and struggled for a word to go with that last line or wondered why your song structure just did not seem right, such a book as this could come to your rescue. Songs are, after all, "just poetry" to music, and this is probably the narrow view taken by the "music oriented" songwriter. However, "just poetry" turns out to be a huge subject with its own art and technology. As a songwriter you probably don't need to know all the technical details of orthometry(correct construction of verse) but you will surely get some new ideas and inspiration from just a "skim" of the vast amount of information in this book. Probably, for most, the rhyming dictionary section will be the most useful but I do urge you to check some of the other sections too.
It is also interesting to note, that pretty much all tradition songs use rhyming lyrics, perhaps this says somthing about what is needed for a song of lasting appeal.
This book was scanned and OCRed, an intrinsically imperfect process, so please forgive the few errors and weirdness you will find, I hope it does not spoil your enjoyment too much.
